WORK THAT MATTERS TO MEMBERS
Work during Jason Frederickson’s presidency. Completed steps and work still underway are described separately below.
Standing up for your leave.
We challenged the blanket two-person leave limit using contract language and filed grievances. Management stopped applying the cap. Leave requests are now considered against mission requirements.
That’s time with family, an appointment, or a needed day off. We can’t promise every approval, but members deserve proper consideration.
We’ve also helped members raise leave and FMLA concerns using the contract and applicable protections.
Getting electronic leave recognized.
Our first electronic vote supported electronic leave requests. Management confirmed by email that electronic submissions would be recognized as equivalent.
Making participation easier.
We introduced electronic voting and held electronic meetings because members wanted more ways to participate.
Moving the 2008 contract forward.
We pursued reopening the 2008 CBA. The Lodge’s record documents management’s acknowledgment and request for proposed ground rules. Negotiating an updated agreement remains work ahead.
Better organization and follow-through.
We’ve worked to make representation contacts and governing documents easier to find, organize Lodge records, and clarify officer responsibilities so issues and deadlines receive follow-through.
Building member connection.
Membership raffles, an end-of-year banquet, and a Member of the Year award give us more ways to come together and recognize members.
Bringing the Lodge into the digital age.
We built a Lodge website, established an official logo, and added a merchandise store—alongside electronic participation and better digital records.
Financial stewardship: work underway.
Audit underway: An audit is in progress; it is not yet complete.
Investing planned: Investing Lodge funds is a planned next step. No completed investment or return is being claimed.
OUR FOUR-PILLAR PLAN
Better schedules. Better retention. Better retirement. A better work environment. These are the goals we will pursue through bargaining and the other approval processes each proposal requires.
1. Better schedules
Pursue mixed 12/8-hour schedules and four 10-hour days to give members more days off and reduce mandatory overtime. Align schedules and staffing with the actual workload while maintaining coverage and keeping existing positions.
2. Better retention
Make this a place officers want to stay: schedules that support life outside work, a stronger long-term retirement outlook, and better working conditions.
3. Better retirement
Pursue enhanced federal law-enforcement retirement coverage, commonly called 6(c), subject to eligibility and required approvals.
Evaluate a funding proposal using scheduling savings and funds currently spent on retention pay. Jason would support exchanging retention pay only if enhanced retirement coverage were formally approved and secured.
This is a proposal to pursue. It is not a guarantee of coverage or of future retention-pay decisions.
4. A better work environment
Pursue on-duty fitness time to support officer health and readiness.
Seek an authorized process for qualified officers to bring personally owned firearms onto BEP property when arriving for or leaving work. The proposal requires review of applicable law and site policy; it does not assert an existing on-site carry right under LEOSA.
Members shape the work
Bring member priorities into contract negotiations, explain what remains unresolved, and report on decisions and finances while protecting confidential member matters.
